So, you want to meet me?

Hi! Here I am, at the request of many who have written asking to see a photo of me and to let them know something about me. I'm sorry to dissapoint those who expected to see a good looking, young guy.

I was born too many years ago in the small town of San Germán, Puerto Rico. My father was a popular musician, so I grew up listening to music and watching my father's band rehearsals. I began studying the clarinet at the age of eleven years old but at 14 switched to piano, where I showed more ability and made rapid progress. At that time there was a scarcity of pianists in my area, and because of that (not because of my ability) I was asked to play in a locally famous orchestra. My parents allowed me because my uncle also played there. My father didn't have a dance band at that time but soon after he made a new one and I joined him. Music was the obvious choice for me when I went to college. I got a BA in applied piano from Inter American University. During my studies I continued playing in my father's band for a while and then I made my own group, the Latin Four. It was just piano, rythm and singer, so I had to do a lot of work, and that was where I got my best experience.

After graduation I got a job as a music teacher in the nearby city of Mayaguez. I got married (in 1970) and at the same time quit playing with my group. I only did occasional engagements in a local night club accompanying the guest artists in the midnight show. Since then I have not played anywhere else!

In 1977 I began composing Danzas (Puerto Rican folk music) and became one of the most respected composers of that genre. I have received many awards and recognitions for my work in that area.

In 1985 I quit my teaching job and began my own Real Estate business. With the advent of the internet I decided to build two musical sites to share my talent with all of you - El Hogar de la Danza Puertorriqueña and Luciano's Piano Bar. If you are not already sleepy or tired from reading this, there is a more complete and formal biography HERE

Thank you for your interest and for taking the time to read this.

Your friend,

Luciano
